Since 2020 I have been making handmade ink from botanical and foraged materials. I was initially inspired by Jason Logan’s book Make Ink, after I attended a lecture he delivered on the subject. Ink making became my “pandemic hobby” and I quickly became wrapped up in the world of natural dyes and pigments. In 2023 I had the pleasure of studying ink making with Tim McLaughlin of Maiwa, an experience that refined my skills and added a whole new understanding of this materials practice. I share my inks under the name Moon Goblin Ink, in reference to the tricky and magical nature of dye craft, and I love to see what other artists create with my inks. When I make ink my goal is not to reproduce consumer art products, but to rather create an art making material that is dynamic, unpredictable, and slightly unnatural.
